Though all afflictions are evils in themselves, yet they are good for us, because they discover to us our disease and tend to our cure.
–John Tillotson
Artists should not fear affliction or welcome it for the sake of his or her art and creative expression. It is not necessary. However, at some point in life we are all faced with calamity, but we don’t have to stay in affliction or perpetuate the cycle of suffering.
Often times, we believe if we could just stop sinning then affliction would go away. However, we have the wrong perception about sin. Sin is missing the mark or misalignment with the Law of Life (LORD).
That misalignment can cause us to allow the disease of calamity to overtake our lives simply because we are trying to function in our affliction. Instead of trying to function in our affliction, as co-creators operating in self-love, we must make every effort to realize what this affliction is trying to reveal to us something very significant about our choices and decisions. Hence,if we pay attention and stay present-moment aware (conscious), these choices and decisions will reveal to us our vibration and how we can transform it.
Our commitment to this transformation is our cure for the disease of calamity. Through this revelation, we realize that affliction is not “punishment” but rather evidence that we are misaligned with universal and spiritual laws. We are not being punished by God but rather we are being shown our spiritual misalignment in the physical world.
With this wisdom, we do not have remain stuck in affliction and trapped in calamity. We can move from calamity to comfort. And when I say comfort, I do not mean complacency, but rather the comfort of the Oneness Blessing, Wholeness, or the Holy Spirit. It is this comfort which quiets the mind and we are able to see there is no separation between us and God.
As it happens, this oneness transforms us and we find that we are aligned with spiritual laws. We are then available for ever increasing good. We are available to love, light, and beauty.
Being available to love, light, and beauty is essential for the artist. Artists express life through their work or their art/art form. And just by being available to ever increasing good, the artist reveals this love, light, and beauty to the world.
Through this creative process, something wonderful happens, the very inspiration that “moved” the artist inspires others to be an inspiration. This inspiration becomes contagious and ultimately changes the world.
