Complicated-Happiness Leads to Complicated-Wealth

My favorite quote from the Dalai Lama so far (and I do mean so far because the Dalai Lama has plenty more wisdom to share) is…

“The purpose of our lives is to be happy.”  Looking at this quote and meditating on it brings me to a place of peace and appreciation that my life is about me being happy.  I rejoice in knowing that my purpose is so simple.  My purpose is happiness.

It is quite simple, isn’t it?  Then, in my head, I hear the lyrics from Lauren Hill’s Ex factor pumping out the beat when she sings…

“It can all be so simple…but you rather make it hard.”

We love our complicated-happy as human beings.  Simple-happy, we don’t want that, oh no.  We want happiness that is the product of blood sweat and tears.  We want happy through complicated layers of all of our stuff and pain and agony.

Why can’t we enjoy simple-happy? We can’t enjoy simple-happiness because we won’t allow ourselves. We won’t allow ourselves to attract and manifest simple-happiness in our lives because we have been conditioned to believe that if we have not achieved happiness without some struggle, then we are unworthy of it.

In fact, we have become so attached to our complicated-happiness we find ourselves using it as our “testimony” while we share war wounds with our friends and loved ones.  Why is it so hard to believe that we are meant to be happiness?  Yes, be happiness!

Some among us have pursued and chased happiness for so long that we really don’t know what would “make us happy.”  Happiness is a state of being.  It is never something we can chase or pursue.

Think about it for a moment, to chase or pursue something means to “trail it,” which means that you will always be behind it.  Whatever you chase or pursue is always out of your reach.  It’s no different with happiness.  Either you are in a state of being happiness or you are not.  You can’t catch it.

Even when in grief, you can still be happy.  Happiness is what we call “well-being.”  In fact, when someone is in “well-being” that person is in a state of weal.  Weal is the root word for “wealth.”  Just as heal is the root word for Health.   With an understanding of this wisdom, one can see that complicated-happiness can lead to complicated-wealth.

It should not be a surprise to us that if we are so attached to complicated-happiness, it would lead to complicated-wealth.  When you get into the habit of chasing things and making things difficult, it has a way of taking over your life.  How?  Again, it is those feelings of unworthiness.

When we practice true self-love and build a sense of self-worth through self-acceptance, then and only then can we appreciate simple-happiness.  Good things come into our lives and we don’t feel the need to complicated it or stir in the drama in order to appreciate it.  Appreciate, yes, appreciate!  Appreciation means to increase in value or worth and as you increase in self-worth, you will find that you will also increase in wealth.  It’s just that simple.
